RIAT 2013 – RAF Fairford

The Royal International Air Tattoo was an event I’d been waiting for since just after Christmas when I got my ticket as a present from Ayesha’s mum…

The last time I went to an air tattoo as a spectator, it was simply called the International Air Tattoo. It was back in 1983 at the RAF base at Greenham Common (it moved to RAF Fairford in 1985 and became ‘Royal’ in 1996).

After a cloudy start that put a few of the aircraft into their ‘flat’ displays, the weather picked up for the remainder of the day and the rest of the display aircraft demonstrated to their full potential. It’s very difficult to pick a favourite but if I was pressed, I’d have to say that the Airbus A400M ‘Atlas’ and the MiG-29 were up near the top along with the old PBY Catalina amphibious plane.
